Sometimes, I wonder how I ended up here in a Sales and Business Development job. And them I remember, “Oh yeah… That day”
I was working in my first job after College, and I was not happy! You see, I was a recent Bachelor in Chemical Engineering. And there I was, buying machine parts and circular saw.
So obviously, I was sending my resume around, and interviewing quite regularly. To be honest, I’m always up for an interview. I like to train my people skills and check how’s the Market.
One of this interviews was for a sales position. I didn’t knew that beforehand. I was talking to the hiring manager, and we were having a good conversation, up until he told me it was a sales position.
I probably let it show in my face that I was not happy, because he promptly asked “that was not what you were expecting, right?”
I was honest. I was happy I was considered for the role… But wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. And then he said something that stuck with me:
You don’t know yet, but you have a future in sales! I can tell by the way you speak

I laughed and said “I think you might be hearing me wrong”
That was 2013, and would you look at that! He was right!
My next job was in an Production Chemicals company. Supplying for an Interntional Oil Company. So you can imagine how happy I was to fulfill my dream of working with Chemicals!

But the actual true is, that since the beginning I had a string of jobs in which I was the face of my company to the customer.
I was responsible for the management of the customer contract with us, and for finding and developing new Opportunities. I managed the team that worked in the customers facilities. I assured the delivery of our products and build the relationship with the customer.
That means that even when I was disguised as a Chemist and as an Engineer… I was always sales! That guy was right!
Maybe I should have pried more in his precognition…
Predictably remote,
